Belgium Province

The Dominican Province of Belgium

Fathers from Flanders and Wallonia are united again and clearly bilingual and that is not a problem to anyone. Our monasteries are located in Sint-Amandsberg, Brussels, Leuven, Louvain-la-Neuve, Liège and Antwerp. We also have our house and our church in Knokke-Zoute.

After many years we are once again one Belgian Dominican province. In Knokke we always celebrate during the weekend (in normal times). During the week we can take a breather or just take a little vacation. We also occasionally organize study days in Knokke.

Each monastery has its prior (so to speak: the boss) who is chosen by the monastic community. All monasteries together are under the expert guidance of the provincial who is elected every four years by our brothers. A brother vicar and a brother economist assist the provincial. All these brothers ensure that everything runs smoothly everywhere.

Sick or elderly brothers, who need more and more help, can go to a residential care center.

Live as brothers among each other, yes we do! We gather every day to pray in the morning and evening. Each monastery also has its daily Eucharistic celebration. Each community lives in a specific Dominican way, which means: study, pray, meditate and fraternal togetherness.
